Curtain Call Balloons...

Hiya!

Welcome to another Curtain Call colour challenge! Sorry for not posting this week but I went back to work (albeit only two days a week!) and had our living room replastered so life has been a bit hectic!

Anyways, check out this week's colours:
Such bright and fresh colours! Now in the UK we don't have the new colours yet.... BUT... my fab friend Vannessa has managed to get her hands on some from the US and she very kindly sent me a sample of each - yay! So I was able to play with the exact colours - although I had to ration my useage of them due to not having a lot to play with! This is what I came up with:

I used the balloon from Crazy for Cupcakes and paper-pieced the balloons with Poppy Parade and Daffodil Delight cardstock and coated both with crystal effects. I used the sketch from The Sweet Stop this week - love their sketches!! Their 'spin' was to 'think school' and I thought my primary colours on the card was a bit of a school link (primary school... ok a bit tenuous but it works in my head!). I added some white satin ribbon with a PTI button and a bunch of piercing to finish.

Curtain Call Dream...

Hiya!

It's that time of the week again! Time for another Curtain Call colour challenge, and this week's colours are bright and cheerful:
I have these colours from old in-colour packs my mum got me from Australia so I could play along with the exact colours this week - yay! Here's what I came up with:
The colours came up really strangely on the pic (had to use hubby's phone to take it as I can't find our digital camera amidst the chaos of having our living room replastered - joy!!). It looks just the right side of bright (KWIM?) in real life! The flowers are from the Live Your Dream set (selectively inked with large inkpads... which was fun!). The flowers were stamped a second time and popped up for added dimension. On the Kiwi Kiss panel I stamped the vine border along the side from Vintage Vogue using Kiwi Kiss ink. I added some Tangerine Tango ribbon and a pin from the Pretties Kit - LOVE these things!! Just wish the camera would capture how pretty it is IRL! I used this week's SFYTT for the layout.

Doggie Sketch...

Hiya!

I picked up this cute stamp from Taylored Expressions at CHA - couldn't resist it! Thought it would be perfect for an anniversary card (which I realised the other day I have hardly any of!!). I used this week's Taylored Expressions Sketch for the layout and came up with this:

I used some papers from the 6x6 pack from Kaiser Craft that we were given for free at CHA - it has some great die-cut tags and borders and things at the back that came in handy for the scallop border. I used some Twill Tape from SU and a couple of PTI buttons (couldn't resist!). The sentiment is from one of the Fillable Frames sets from PTI (also picked up at CHA). The image was coloured with copic markers. Am loving how cute this card is - will have to find a cute couple to give it to!

Colour Throwdown meets new stash...

Hiya!

I'm on holiday at the mo in the Lakes District (one of the most beautiful places on EARTH!) with my hubby for the week, but I've managed to bring a load of crafty stash (basically all my new toys from the States plus some staple supplies!) so I'm still crafting! Our little cottage has wi-fi (when it's behaving itself) so I can blog too... hooray!

I've made a few cards already which I'll share in due course, but I thought I would show this one that I made last night for the colour throwdown challenge this week: Tangerine Tango, Daffodil Delight and Old Olive. Here's what I came up with:

I had to improvise with the colours as I haven't got all my cardstock colours with me so I used a mix of DSP. The butterfly is cut from felt from PTI with their butterfly die - soooo pretty! I added a button to the middle from my {mega} stash hee hee! (BTW - my hubby couldn't quite believe I'd taken ALL my buttons with us on hols... I tried to explain that I needed the full selection of colours but he didn't really get it... lol!). I used a mat stack die from PTI to cut out the Tangerine layer behind the butterfly then layered a 1 3/4" circle on top with some buttons either side. The ribbon is So Saffron (closest I have to the new Daffodil Delight colour I think). The sentiment is stamped in Old Olive and it's from PTI's Everyday Button Bits set. I used a paper doily for the background (got these at Michaels - 30 in a pack for silly money hee hee!) and another sketch from the Go To Sketches mag... so pleased I got that in the US!

That's all for now - might even post again today with another card - we'll see how the wi-fi holds up!

Thanks for stopping by!

Curtain Call Double Fun...

Hiya!

Welcome to another Curtain Call challenge! Check out this week's colours:

In the UK we haven't got the new colours yet (bring on September when demos get to preorder lol!). I had to substitute Pumpkin Pie, Chocolate Chip and Wild Wasabi but the colours ended up pretty close to the inspiration pic so I was happy! I got a bit carried away with my new stuff and decided to make two cards - here's the first:

I used the Bird on a Branch set (which is on sale during August) to create the scene - gotta love the Stamp-a-ma-jig for lining up images properly! The orange bird is stamped seperately and cut out and popped up next to the brown bird. I thought these two looked like a cute little old couple - perfect for an anniversary card! I've just gotten my hands on the Pumpkin Pie big striped ribbon and had to try one of those big luscious bows I've been admiring on many of Stacey's cards - love putting a button in the centre too! I sponged around the edges of the background and main panels with Choc Chip ink to grunge it up a little. The background panel was stamped with the Medallion stamp with Wild Wasabi ink.

I had to play with my freebie PTI set I got at the CHA show so I whipped this one up as an added bonus:

This set is so easy to use! The leaves are a big stamp and you just choose one of the four flower stamps to fit over the ends of the stems - so cute! I used PTI's Linen and Canvas impression plate to add some texture to the image panel and added some Tea Dye ink around the edges to distress a little. The sentiment is from the same set. I added some stitching, lace and buttons to finish off.

For both of these cards I used sketches from the Go to Sketches magazine that I picked up in the States - it is FABulous! I've seen bits and pieces from it on the 'net for ages so I was really excited to be able to pick up a copy myself.

Chicago highlights...

Hiya!

I got back from Chicago yesterday morning - what a fabulous time we had!! I would have posted earlier but jet lag caught up with me and I ended up sleeping til 1pm today - eek!

I thought I would share with you some of the highlights of my trip (CHA will be featuring heavily!!)... Beware: this will be a long post so grab a cuppa, pull up a comfy chair and enjoy!

My sister and I arrived on Wednesday afternoon and after spending two hours getting through customs and another two hours waiting for our hotel shuttle bus we were EXHAUSTED! So we ended up crashing for the evening with some free pizza given to us by some fellow hotel guests who had not been able to eat everything they'd ordered! This was an occurance we were to become quite familiar with...

Thursday we hit the town for some shopping but first we had to fuel-up with some breakfast so we went to the famous Lou Mitchell's diner - oh my word so much food!! Here's a pic of me enjoying it:

Once filled to the brim we headed to the shops, and first stop had to be Michael's... Now for those of you in the States who know what Michael's is, you'll have to bear with me as I gush about how utterly fabulous this store is! Coming from the UK, where there is NOTHING like it, this was truly an amazing experience. It's like a crafting supermarket, with oodles of fabulous paper crafting goodies, as well as cake-baking, chocolate-making, candle and soap creating tools and products, as well as alterable containers, books, etc, etc! And as if that wasn't enough of a treat LOADS of it was on sale, and the rest was cheap cos it was US $$ - yippee!!

Here's a pic of my stash from Michael's:
Those paper stacks were a bargain, two of them being 40% off and one being on sale for $7.99 (it's a mega-stack with 148 papers)... Yes, yes I know I don't need any more paper but I just couldn't resist!! So pretty...!

The rest of Thursday was spend trekking around the city - and SO much walking, my word I don't think I've ever walked so much in all my life! We reckon it was about 10 miles or so by the end of the day! Here's a photo of us (I think it was walking back into the city from visiting Michael's):

Friday was the big day...CHA! I can't tell you how excited I was about going after everything I'd heard about it. Here's some shots of the Convention Centre (across the road from our hotel!!) and me heading in there.

The centre was absolutely massive... as was the queue to get into the show!! We got over there about 20 minutes before opening time and the queue was already ridiculous. By the time the doors opened, it was around three times as long as when we arrived!

Our destination once inside was the Papertrey Ink stand. I have been a fan of their products for a while now and this was my chance to buy up BIG! Theirs was obviously a very popular stand as the queues to purchase quickly reached outside of the stand and by the time we had grabbed our goodies, lined up and then paid, almost two hours had passed! But it wasn't like the two hours at customs... it was so much fun! We chatted to other ladies in the line, and Nichole Heady (owner of PTI) was greeting everyone and being so lovely! Here's a photo of us:

Once we'd bought our PTI stuff, I had some rather heavy bags so we deposited our stuff  back in our hotel room (oh the joys of location, location, location!) and headed back in. We did a make and take with Mish Wooderson, one of the design team members at PTI using the free CHA stamp set we got for every $100 purchased (I won't tell you how many I received...). Here's what we made:
So pretty!!

We then went and hit the rest of the stalls, including Taylored Expression, MFT, Ippity, Kaiser Crafts and a bunch of other general scrapbook and stamping stalls. Here's a make-and-take we did at Kaiser Crafts:
And the lady on the Kaiser Crafts stall was so generous! She gave us a 6x6 paper pad for free! Turned out she was the Creative Director of the company and comes from Australia - just two hours away from my home town - how cool is that?!

We were pretty exhausted when we got back to the hotel room so ordered some Giordanos pizza delivered to our room - it is amazing pizza! Deep filled with loads of cheese and yummy goodness! Here's a pic of my sister ready to tuck in...

One final thing I had to do before day's end was to collect all my goodies for a 'group photo'... and here it is:
LOL!! Don't try to count the buttons people... it's an addiction ok??!

Saturday we went back to the show for the morning and did some more make-and-takes and I got to meet one of my crafting idols, Dawn McVey:
She was just as lovely IRL as she is on her blog. We did a make-and-take with her using PTI's CHA stamp set and one of their impression plates (which I couldn't help purchasing!)...

We also did a M&T with Debbie Olsen:

After we moved on from the PTI stand (and yes... we did eventually move on!) we did a few more M&T's including with Ippity (such a cute stand!):
And Taylored Expressions (with Taylor herself chatting away to us!). Such a cute little book...

I also met the very sweet Sankari Wegman on the Taylored Expressions stand (on Friday) - she was so lovely! I wasn't thinking straight at that point (too much shopping!) and forgot to take a photo, but I really enjoyed chatting to her - such a fab person and crafter! We had a good laugh about her liquid pearls addiction and our difficulty attempting a clean & simple card (check out her blog and you'll see what we mean!).

I eventually managed to leave CHA after lunch (I think my sister had reached her limit!) and we headed back into town for some more shopping - this time to Macy's. My sister Rebecca, who isn't known for her love of shopping, fell in love with Macy's and it ended up being me having to drag her out of there cos it was late and we needed to eat! We ended up going to Gibson's steak house, which had been recommeded to us by Dawn, as well as having read about it in Becca's Chicago guide. We figured due to the prices and the fact we had eaten another large breakfast earlier in the day that we would share a meal and therefore have smaller portions... ha ha ha! Here's a pic of our dinner:

This food could be described in many ways: delicious, incredible, mouth-watering... but certainly not small!! Both of us cracked up laughing at the thought of ordering this meal just for one! No wonder they do left-overs in a bag at the end of your meal...  This seriously was the best food I have EVER tasted! I think it's ruined my taste buds...

Sunday was more shopping (I was under strict instructions from our Dad and sister that I HAD to make Becca buy some clothes!). Macy's was visited again, and I ended up getting some shoes, a Guess top (which I'm wearing in a photo later) and a Guess watch, as well as a Fossil watch for Richard (had to get him something didn't I...??).

Monday was our final day and we rushed around the city doing Lincoln Zoo and Millenium Park before we had to head to the airport.

The architecture and interesting sculptures were truly incredible in Chicago - here's one final pic of me next to the Bean, a very shiny and reflective bubble in Millenium Park:

We really did have a fabulous time - the dream crafting holiday I've wanted for a long time! I've very thankful that I was able to do this and the memories will no doubt last a lifetime!

Thanks for stopping by...

Curtain Call Bling!

Hiya!

I hope this posts ok cos I've scheduled it way ahead!

Check out this week's colours:

And here's what I came up with (must have been on a bit of a Christmas in July kick!):

I don't have Marina Mist yet - bring on September!! So I went with Baja Breeze instead. I stamped the trees on Whisper White with Versamark and embossed with clear EP. I then inked up the swirl from Baroque Motifs with Versamark then Baja Breeze then stamped on the top right and embossed with clear EP as well. I then brayered over the whole piece first with Baja Breeze, and then Night of Navy at the bottom - how cool is this resist effect?? I kinda imagined the idea in my head but didn't know whether it would work or not and I'm so pleased with how it turned out! All credit should of course go to the amazing Michelle Zindorf for any brayering/resist ideas or techniques!!
